The "Mushroom"
Designers: R.Colosimo, A.Martinelli, S.Varisco.
Constructed during the build-up to the 1960 Olympic games to act as a header tank for the water taken from the near-by artificial lake, which was then distributed to the fire-fighting and irrigation network throughout the EUR district, this structure - better known as the "Mushroom" - currently houses a bar on the ground floor and at the top a panoramic restaurant designed by the architect Lorenzo Monardo.
The building, which is approximately 52 meters high, was constructed using a special reinforced concrete structure containing a tank 30 meters in diameter, capable of holding 2,500 cubic meters of water.
